Why Is A Prescription Needed To Get Heartworm Medicine?
Because there is a major conspiracy and we are seen as too daft to be able to be sensible without the vet making money!
At least that is what many believe. The fact that some countries only allow us to purchase heartworm meds after we have got a prescription from the vets seems ludicrous. Luckily our sponsor is able to ship many heartworm meds without a prescription.
It seems that we are not to be trusted to think for ourselves when it comes to heartworm meds. All pets should be tested before being given a course of heartworm treatment if there is a chance that they may have developed the young heartworms from an infected mosquito. It seems that this is the primary reason why we need a prescription. i.e to ensure that our pets are given the all clear after the test.
In this way it is safe to give our pets the heartworm medicine. However this is not really true. Heartworms take at least six months to fully develop, if not longer. It is dangerous to administer heartworm treatments once the adult worms have reached the heart but if they are still developing and not reached adulthood then the claims are false.
We can give Ivermectin, which is the active heartworm treatment in Heartgard and many generics up to three months after a suspected case of a Dog having developing heartworms. We simply need to ensure that they are treated every month for a year. No missing of the pills at all. Considering you can buy generic heartworm pills like Valuheart for $20 for six months this makes it cheaper than a heartworm test.
So, either way we are being done a disservice. If we have our pet tested and act responsibly then why should we not be trusted to judge for ourselves if we wish to give a monthly preventative? Or, if we have not treated for heartworms for just under three months why should we need a prescription for heartworm medicine when we can simply give a 12 month course in total safety?
Sounds like a money making conspiracy to me. You be the judge. Act sensibly and ensure that it is safe to give heartworm pills to your pet. Get a test done if there is any doubt and then return here to get non prescription heartworm medicines at the lowest prices online. $20 for six months is not very much is it?
In the US the FDA say that you need a prescription for heartworm medicine because if you use the heartworm pills on an animal that has adult heartworms then it could kill it. This is true. But, if you test your pet first and it is given the all clear and your vet recommends a heartworm medicine why should you need a prescription. You shouldn’t.
Also, if you have simply missed a few months then there is no harm giving a heartworm pill or treatment. The heartworms will be tiny, they won’t cause death or damage if they are killed. They are too small. If we act sensibly or if our vet says that it is safe to give a heartworm treamtent then why a prescription?
To add to this, what if you give a heartworm pill or spot on type application such as Advocate all year round. Why should you need a repeat prescription? There is absolutely no logic to it. These pet meds are no more dangerous than others that are available without a prescription.
Be careful, get your pet tested if you are concerned, and this is highly recommended if you have not had it done in the last six months or less, and then use our links to purchase many heartworm meds without a prescription.
If you want to read a very interesting article about the whole heartworm medicine conspiracy then I cannot recommend TerrierMans very interesting post highly enough. You may not wish to use the liquid Ivermectin he suggests but the realities of the whole heartworm meds conspiracy are very well presented.
